Portland
2006
Portland is a beautiful city, and we had an
opportunity to fly up there for the 4th of July Holiday weekend.
All photos on this page were created using
the Nikon D70 with the Tokina 12-24 lens.

We arrived in Portland at around
midnight on a Friday night. The city is safe, so Sue and I walked
around a bit. This is Kelly's Olympian in downtown Portland.
If you ride a motorcycle, you have to visit this place. |
| This Ural was parked in front of
Kelly's. The sidecar passenger waited patiently for the rider. |
 |
 |
We had a late night snack at the
Red Star, a great downtown restaurant. I used our table as a tripod. |
 |
Portland is a bike-friendly
town, but the trolley tracks pose a hazard for bicyclists if your front
wheel gets caught. This is an interesting sign. |
 |
We saw these interesting
fountains in several downtown locations. |
 |
A sculpture in the
entranceway of the Portland power company. |
| Goofing around in Camera World
of Oregon, in downtown Portland, with the D70's remote trigger. |
 |
 |
The entrance to Portland's
Chinatown. |
| Hmmh. |
 |
| Interesting manway covers. |
 |
 |
Portland was having a Blues
festival the weekend we visited. I guess you could say this guy had
the blues... |
 |
Body paint. |
| More body paint. |
 |
| More interesting metal work. |
 |
 |
I guess they didn't want people
to get drunk. Or maybe this guy was a taster. Who knows? |
 |
Starbucks provided free
samples. Whatever this one was, it was good. |
 |
Inside the rotunda at the
Pioneer Mall in downtown Portland. |
 |
Interesting backlit rocks in a
window display. |
| Yep, me on camera. |
 |
| Hmmmh again. |
 |
 |
Another storefront
display. No tripod...I just used the window to steady the camera. |
 |
Playing around inside the
elevator at the Governor Hotel. The inside of the elevator was
polished brass. |
 |
We rented a car the second day
we were in Portland to drive through the Columbia River Gorge. It
was a great deal...$24 for the day, but we had to walk to the rental
agency.
Here's a photo of a historic church I
grabbed on our walk to the rental agency. |
 |
The first falls we
visited. |
| And another. |
 |
 |
Mulnomah Falls in the Columbia
River Gorge. This is the most well known of the series of falls
along the Gorge, and it drew the largest crowds. |
 |
The Bonneville Dam, also in the
Columbia River Gorge. |
| This is a fish ladder, where the
salmon have a way to swim upstream around the dam. |
 |
 |
Here's a viewing window that
allows you to see the fish swimming up the fish ladder. This was
really cool. It reminded me of a lot of jobs I've had.
I braced the lens against the window for
these shots, too. |
 |
Advertising covering a building
side in Portland. This image was about 50 feet tall. |
 |
Another interesting storefront. |
 |
Portland has a lot of
interesting sculpture downtown. |
 |
An old Chevy Corvair.
These were cool cars...an air-cooled flat six. It was Chevy's answer
to the Volkswagen Beetle back in the early 1960s. |
 |
Chotchkas.
More window shopping and shooting. |
