and Military Motorcycles |

Is this cool, or what? Wow....six years in the making, a very
patient publisher, and the result is a dream come true....Police
and Military Motorcycles, from Paladin
Press. The photographs in this book are fabulous,
including many from police department archives around the world, BMW in
Germany, Kawasaki in the United States, and more than a few that I grabbed
with my Nikon in the U.S., China, and other countries. Hey, I've
thought about this a lot, and I've decided you should buy this book!

Military

motorcycle photographs from around the world. Yep, this particular
photo (provided by my good friend Mike) became the cover of Police
and Military Motorcycles from Paladin

Wow, another 2008
trip to Baja...this time racing down to and then being chased back up
the peninsula by Hurricane Norbert! That's the Las Tres Virgenes
volcano in the background, with Norbert's clouds looming ominously
overhead.
|
|
San
Felipe 2008, a nice ride to the north end of the Sea of Cortez.
|
|
Baja 2008, a quick
1700-mile buzz down the Sea of Cortez coastline to Loreto on a couple of
fast Triumphs.
|
|
Baja
2007...a great road trip to see the whales, take in some scenery,
enjoy fantastic food, and experience some of the best riding in the world!
|
|
Whoa, another
trip to San Felipe, this time on the KLR 650 Kawasaki in the company
of some real roadburners!
|
|
Another Triumph ride, this time
to Bahia de Los
Angeles in Baja California, in October 2006. Check out our photos
from this quick 1100-mile Mexican moto weekend.
|
|
San
Felipe's 80th Anniversary, as seen during a weekend motorcycle trip in
February 2005. Wow, did we ever get lucky!
|
 |
Another San Felipe
overnighter, on a couple of red hot sports bikes. What a great ride!
|
|

|
Baja 2004!
A quick, 4-day, 1550-mile motorcycle trip to Mulege and back! Who
would have guessed that a 130-hp Suzuki TL1000S would make a dynamite
sport touring machine?
|
|

|
An ongoing
favorite...our first Mexico
motorcycle trip! Follow our adventure from Los Angeles to Cabo
San Lucas, across the Sea of Cortez, down to Guadalajara, and back to the
USA! Look at this magnificent church tucked away in the jungle!

Motorcycle
Trips
|
|
Death Valley...I
put an easy 500 miles on my KLR one weekend meandering through this
incredible place. It's a good weekend trip if you live in California,
with great roads and great photo opportunities!
|
|
Los
Cincos Pasos, or five days of shooting the passes through the Sierra
Nevada mountains in California's Gold Rush Country!
|
 |
Want to try something really
different? How about a quick 2400-mile motorcycle trip to the annual
Rattlesnake Roundup
in Sweetwater, Texas....yep, we got snowed in on the way back in
Lordsburg, New Mexico.
|
 |
Feel like going for a motorcycle
ride? How about the Southern California Motorcycle Club's 5,000-mile
Three
Flags Classic? This is one of the best motorcycle runs in the world,
spanning (as the name implies) three countries: Mexico, Canada, and
the United States. This was the 30th anniversary of the Three Flags
Classic run...409 motorcycles, and only one of them was a Triumph...my
1200 Daytona.

Photos from a 2005 trip up the
Pacific Coast Highway to San
Francisco, then on to Lake Isabella, and back to southern
California.

Rides |

I grabbed my old Minolta X-700, hopped on the
KLR 650, and headed for the dirt roads in the San
Gabriel Mountains north of my home. I'm pretty lucky
living close to the San Gabriel mountain range, and the dirt roads back
there are a lot of fun (they are perfect for the KLR).
|
|

|
Here's a quick 350-mile Sunday ride up to Big
Bear and then on to Joshua Tree
National Park with the local Triumph club - a great day and a great
ride!
|
 |
Cerro
Noestre Road is one of the best-kept secrets in southern/central
California. We took a quick 1-day, 400-mile jaunt from the LA basin
to ride along it and Lockwood Valley Road.
|
 |
See the white stuff behind that
gorgeous red Ducati ST3? I think they call that snow. We
passed a sign riding into Oak Glen
advising us that chains were required. Landon's KLR, Marty's Duck,
and my Tiger all have chain drive, so I figured we'd be okay...
|
 |
You can always count on seeing interesting
motorcycles and interesting people at Newcomb's
Ranch, up on California's Angeles Crest Highway.
|
 |
Here's a Sunday morning breakfast ride up to Big
Bear on a Triumph Tiger in June 2006.
|
 |
A great gathering spot on a Sunday
morning...the Rock Store. Yep, that's
Jay with our good buddy Dave. I wrote an article on this gathering
spot that ran in Motorcycle Classics magazine.
|
 |
After thinking about buying a KLR
650 Kawasaki for more than 10 years, I took the plunge and bought a
new one from Montclair Yamaha a couple of weeks ago. I love the
bike. Glendora Ridge Road is a perfect place to put some break-in
miles on a new engine, so on Sunday morning my friend Marty and I took a
ride to scuff up the cylinder a bit.
|
 |
Glendora Ridge Road
is a fabulous spot. This particular page of our website has been
picked up by a number of other sites, including the famous www.pashnit.com
and the Valkyrie motorcycle sites.
|
|
The
Devil's Punchbowl is a great spot tucked away on the northern face of
the San Gabriel Mountains. It's a great ride to a great destination. |
 |
Patton
Museum & Joshua Tree
is located about 150 miles east of Los Angeles. You just drone on
out on the slab for a couple of hours, make a left, and then enjoy the
heavy armor and the surreal scenery through Joshua tree.
|
|
Bear
Divide and Lake Hughes is one more fabulous ride through the mountains
in southern California. |
|
Palomar
and Anza Borrego are down in San Diego County. More fabulous
riding and great scenery. |

 |
Lots of great photos from the 2005
Long Beach Motorcycle Show. Mostly motorcycles. Well, some
motorcycles. Hard to look at the motorcycles when there are so many
other photo ops....
|
 |
The 2002
Long Beach Motorcycle Show...fell in love with the Triumph Tiger at that
show and I bought one 4 years later! Triumph calls that color
Lucifer Orange.

Whoa! The
Springfield Mile!
Ever seen a group of riders only inches
apart drifting sideways through the turns at over 100 mph?
Trust me, flat track racing doesn't get any
better (or any faster) than this!
|
|
We had always wanted to see Mt.
Rushmore, so this year we vacationed in South Dakota's Black Hills.
It was the best vacation we've ever had. And, we got to take
in the 68th Annual Sturgis
Motorcycle Rally!
|
|
Bud
Ekins...motorcyclist, motorcycle racer, motorcycle businessman, and
movie stuntman. Bud Ekins passed away in October 2007, and Warner
Brothers Studios had a moving memorial to celebrate his life.

Here's a great concept...the first annual 2006
Shoot and Scoot photo event, sponsored by Brown
BMW and Photo Solutions.
What a day this was!
|
 |
Laughlin
River Run. I used to like going to this one, and the ladies
certainly made for good photo opportunities. It just got too crowded
and too crazy, though. Maybe one of these years I'll get back.

Daytona!
A cool photo...Godzilla and the big 1200cc Triumph Daytona
roadburner. This T-Rex is a goofy roadside attraction in Cabazon, near Palm
Springs, California. I grabbed it on a trip out to a client facility
in the Mojave Desert with the Sony CD400 Mavica.
The Daytona is an awesome motorcycle.
It's a 1995 model I bought in November 2002. Click on the photo for
more on this great machine.

Check out this 1992 Harley Softail after it decided to start grinding metal.
This is the story of doubling an Evo motor's horsepower with a 96-inch
